CPAC Studio Sounds presents The Best of Broadway

After a successful inaugural season in the latter part of 2020, CPAC Studio Sounds returns to Cessnock Performing Arts Centre (CPAC) in 2021 with another series of intimate live performances showcasing some of the region’s finest musicians. The first show in the series pays tribute to the world’s most famous theatre district, with THE BEST OF BROADWAY on Saturday 27 March at 7:30pm. From West Side Story to Wicked, and everything in between, the night promises to be a veritable smorgasbord of Musical theatre staples.

Local pianist and musical maestro Greg Paterson will be presenting almost two hours of entertainment, drawing from an extensive songbook of Broadway’s most memorable and timeless productions. Joining Greg on the night will be vocalists Alicia Paterson, Rachel Davies, Rebecca Kynaston, and Simon Redhead. Greg and his ensemble would be familiar faces to anyone who has attended Carols in the Park at Cessnock Sportsground in recent years, having performed at the annual event since its inception. COVID-19 saw the cancellation of Carols in the Park last year; however Greg, Alicia and Rebecca were on hand to help CPAC celebrate Christmas online, with a series of pre-recorded performances released through the CPAC Facebook page.

A mainstay of the entertainment scene in the Hunter for decades, Greg was recognised in 2020 for his service to the Performing Arts – in particular for music – when he was awarded an Order of Australia Medal (OAM). Greg has also been a recipient of a number of City of Newcastle Drama Association (CONDA) Awards over the years – most recently in 2017 for Outstanding Contribution and Achievement in Newcastle Theatre.

Tickets are $49.00 and include a free drink on arrival. Patrons can choose between either cabaret or tiered seating for the performance. Whilst CPAC has a current capacity of 75% under existing COVID restrictions, to create a truly intimate atmosphere patron numbers for each of the CPAC Studio Sounds performances have been strictly limited to no more than 100 patrons.
