For over twenty years the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Roadshow has presented an all killer, no filler night of stand-up, sketch, satire, silliness and song to towns and cities across Australia. From Mandurah to Mackay, Devonport to Darwin and 80 destinations in between, this really is the rip-roaring road trip of a life time!

Comedians

Kevin Kropinyeri (MC)

Kevin Kropinyeri is one of Australia’s most established and popular Aboriginal comedians with a long list of Australian TV credits. He is a proud Aboriginal man from the Ngarrindjeri Nation of the lower River Murray, Lakes and Coorong region in South Australia.

A high-energy performer, Kevin is sharp, likeable, silly and measured; mixing keen observational standup with joyfully ridiculous physical comedy. His engaging brand of comedy warmly invites both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal audiences to share his journey, his culture, his life.

Kevin is a regular feature on the mainstream corporate, club and festival circuits and a Melbourne International Comedy Festival Roadshow regular. He is a bona fide star of the Indigenous performing arts scene.

Chris Ryan

Chris Ryan is a 46-year-old former journalist, mother of two teenagers and one of the most exciting new voices on the Australian comedy scene, winning Best Newcomer at the Sydney Comedy Festival in 2019. Her laconic take on everything from romance to passive aggressive co-workers has earned her spots in Galas at the Sydney (2019) and Canberra Comedy Festivals (2013, 2017, slated for 2020), Floriade Nightfest and TEDx Canberra.

In 2019, Chris performed comedy for the Australian troops in the Middle East and toured from Darwin to Tasmania, through regional New South Wales and Queensland with the Sydney Comedy Festival Showcase Tour.

Chris co-hosted the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards in 2020 and has been a panel guest in Girls’ Night In at the Canberra Writers Festival, sharing the stage with the likes of Jean Kittson and Jane Caro. After co-hosting a breakfast show on Canberra’s 2XXFM for two years, Chris is now a regular guest on ABC Radio Canberra and has appeared on ABC Radio National’s Drive Quiz and on Thank God It’s Friday with Richard Glover. Chris hosts regular comedy rooms and produces animations on her website.

Andy Saunders

From an early age Andy Saunders has been telling jokes in front of a variety of audiences, he was always destined to make people laugh.

With an impressive and an extraordinary ability to use humor to break down barriers and stereotypes as well as provoke thought in any audience, Andy Saunders takes satire to new heights.

Trenchant observations of human behaviour and sharp material combined with skills in attracting and holding the interest and attention of audiences of all ages are a powerful combination.

Andy has quickly evolved in to one of the most popular and successful acts performing around the country today at a variety of events and venues.

His star continues to rise after performing hundreds of stand-up routines, including in the online show Andy Saunders and Friends, and in The Oxfam Gala, both for the Melbourne International Comedy Festival 2021.

Lizzy Hoo

Lizzy Hoo is many things – a writer, noodle enthusiast, designer, ideas lady, actor, rugby lover, and rescue greyhound owner. Lizzy is also a stand-up comedian who has rapidly become one of Australia’s most exciting new voices.

Lizzy only started doing stand-up in 2017, originally as a way to gain more self- confidence. Safe to say it worked out pretty well. She quickly found herself an NSW State Finalist in the national RAW Comedy competition. The very next year she was invited to perform at the prestigious Just For Laughs Festival at the Sydney Opera House, with her spot broadcast on Network Ten and Foxtel’s Comedy Channel.

This meteoric rise was thankfully dealt a dose of humility as she was booed off stage by a 12-year-old niece at that year’s Hoo Family Christmas Talent Show. Brutal.

But don’t worry, she bounced back. Lizzy performed her first solo show Hoo Am I? (What’s My Name?) to sold out audiences at the 2019 Melbourne International Comedy Festival, and Sydney Comedy Festival where she had to put on extra shows.

This debut show saw Lizzy introduce herself to the world, discussing her Chinese Malaysian/Irish Australian mixed-race heritage, and most notably her one-of-a-kind father (and premier Brisbane ukulele personality) Chan. The show also explored Lizzy’s experiences growing up in suburban Brisbane, shark attacks, KeepCups, and dating white guys.

Sam Taunton

Sam Taunton is one of the most exciting new voices in Australian comedy.

Bursting onto the scene in 2017 he was nominated for the prestigious Best Newcomer award at the Melbourne Comedy Festival, and has since gone on to perform comedy all over the world, culminating in winning the Pinder Prize at this year’s MCF.

After becoming a RAW National Finalist in 2015, handpicked by the Melbourne Comedy Festival for The Comedy Zone (2016), Sam smashed his first solo hour Taunts Down For What in 2017, earning him a MCF Best Newcomer nomination and a nomination for Best Comedy at Perth Fringeworld.

His 2019 solo show, Straight From The Shoulder charmed Australian audiences, selling out rooms around the country, and it was this show that saw him win the Pinder Prize at the Melbourne Comedy Festival, which sent him across to a sell-out run at the Edinburgh Fringe where he cemented himself as one of the hottest young Aussie voices on the Australian comedy circuit.
